Welcome to Jim's HAPAR Golf, a new way to enjoy golf with your friends, and you will discover a new course each time you play. Using a modified Stableford points format, with freedom to play any tee color on each hole and bonus points for good play around the green, it's a fun way for groups to compete, where the player (or team) with the highest points wins.
Using data specific to the golf course and your golf handicap Index, Jim's HAPAR Golf app builds a custom Handicap-Adjust-PAR (HAPAR) Table of numbers for each hole and tee color. HAPAR also offer an option to shuffle the hole HDCPs each day creating a new look at the course each time you play.
When the app starts this is the HOME screen.
At the bottom of the display are 4 navigation tabs to switch between app screens. HOME, ME, YOU and SETTINGS
HOME is used to set the golf course being played, ME is my scorecard, YOU (second player) is your scorecard, and SETTINGS is used tp load new course from the cloud storage.
The blue outlined box scrolls through a list of golf course names that you have downloaded from Jim's cloud storage.
Simply tap on the course name you wish to play and the app will load the course and switch to the ME screen.
The yellow ⌽ symbol found throughout the app screens link to pages with instructions and information about the screen content. Tap on any of these symbols to open an info page.
The ME screen page is identical to the YOU screen and it shows your HAPAR tables and scorecard, and also scrolls an extensive amount of data about the golf course..
At the top is where you set your handicap Index. Usually this will be your USGA GHIN, or similar handicap Index, but if you don't have an Index, check with your playing partners and if acceptable, use an estimate of your handicap from a typical course White tee set. Tap on the index and a Keypad will pop up allowing you to enter your Index. Notice there is also a toggle switch to set Men's or Women's Index.
Below is a toggle switch to enable/disable hole handicap shuffling. When enabled, each day a new shuffle sequence is used to generate your HAPAR table. When disabled, the hole HDCPs will match the course scorecard. Shuffling hole HDCPs does not change your handicap strokes, only where thay are applied. In a Stableford format game this creates a very different game, and all users of the app will use the same daily hole shuffle sequence.
Next is the course name, and start of the Front 9 scorecard. The HAPAR table shown in the yellow outlined box, has highlighted numbers for each tee. These are your custom best tees to play for maximum points. These highlighted numbers are used to calculate a distance yardage. The number marked "Playing 2,747 Yards" is the toal yardage for the Front 9 holes. Next is the "Avg. Drive 196" which is the total yardage divided by 14. This is the USGA formula used to determine the yardage recommended to play for maximum game enjoyment and pace of play. So this HAPAR table is an ideal play yardage for someone that has an average drive of 196 yards.
Next is a row of tee color icons, with your 9 hole calculated handicap strokes for each tee color. For example, for a player with an 18.5 Index, playing the San Clemente MUNI course, he is allowed 10 handicap strokes when using the Blue tees.
The next rows provide hole number, hole PAR, and hole HDCP for each hole.
The yellow outlined box contains the calculate HAPAR numbers for each tee and each hole. HAPAR numbers are adjusted PARs that have your handicap strokes applied using the hole HDCPs shown. If the hoie HDCP sequence is shuffled, the HAPAR numbers will change but the total stroke adjustments remain the same.
Below the HAPAR table is a row of numbers that holds your stroke score. At the completion of play on each hole, you will enter your strokes taken in these boxes. Tap any number and it will expand and highlight in yellow. Use the YELLOW circle slider below to enter your stroke score. The display will update the STOKES and POINTS .
Below the stroke adjsut slider is a row of 7 toggle buttons to enter bonus points. Tap any button to add earned bonus points.
The screen repeats for the Back 9 holes, and then Total Strokes and Total Points for 18 holes are display.
A green button is available to change the background screen color. Setting ME and YOU to different background makes score keeping during play a little easier.
The last orange button is used to clear data and reset cores to start a new game.
The app also keeps a Match play total for the ME and YOU players. Just below the stroke entry numbers, a row of orange letter will track stroke match play. W for win and L for lost, with a toal match status shown in the MatchME +1 box at the bottom of the screen.
At the bottom of the screen is a green toggle button labele Play. Tapping the Paly button will compress the display to consentrat on the Front 9 and Back 9 score cards only.
When the green Play button is toggled, some of the excess data is hidden to make the screen view a little less complex and make data entry easier during game play.
During play, HAPAR is quite simple. Just check the HAPAR table to see which tee to play and play regular golf, and count your strokes.
At the completion of each hole enter your strokes with the YELLOW circle slider and tap to add any bonus points button accordingly. Then pick you next tee color and play the next hole.
To return to the full scroll screen display, tqp the gray button marked Set at the bottom of the display.
Tap the ME and YOU tabs at the bottom of the screen to score for the second player.
Jim's HAPAR golf is a great game for groups of 2 to many players, and each pair of players can share a single app to score their game. But what happens if everone doesn't have the app? Jim's HAPAR Golf app includes a nice feature that allows you to make HAPAR tables for any players that don't have the app. These players will need to keep their onw score totals, but with the HAPAR table you make for them it's quite easy. See below.
At the bottom right side of the display is a small yellow camera icon. It can be used to toggle HAPAR card only mode.
When in HAPAR card only mode, the display hides and compresses the screen to allow both Front 9 and Back 9 HAPAR tables on one screen. Just set the players Index and do an screenshot photo of the HAPAR tables, then scroll down and make a screenshot photo of the green Points Scoring Chart.
Just send these 2 photos for each player that does not have the app. They can then join in to your HAPAR golf competition.
